Eco Party

Save the earth, one eco-tip at a time!

Yoga Journal received hundreds of great eco-tips from readers, sharing their
top ideas to reduce their environmental footprint. Below are some of our
picks for our favorite, most creative, and most popular eco-tips.

Favorite Tips:

* Compost.
It is amazing to see how table scraps, leaves, grass clippings,
etc. become a product that is usable.

* Grey water.
Use bath water or water collected in the shower to water your garden!

* Teach your children well.
We have instilled a Green ethic in our kids. You can't do better than
that!

* Turn off the engine.
I am working with my son's daycare to create a No Idle Zone at his school.

* Unwrap.
We’re not using wrapping paper this year for Christmas gifts...just a tag
and bow.

* Unplug.
Unplug your phone, ipod,  and other device.chargers when not in use. This is wasted
energy.

* Drive less.
Try to organize your day enough to use your time and vehicle efficiently.
Drive as little as possible. Walk when you can.

Most Creative:

* Email vs snail-mail.
Send out an electronic green newsletter to friends and colleagues. It is a
good way to educate people without wasting paper!

* Travel less.
Stay home more and enjoy what you have.

* Consume less.
Take a stand against wasteful consumption- resolve to not buy anything new
for a month or year. Use saved time and money to do good.

Most Popular/Noteworthy:

* Light bulbs.
Switch to energy efficient light bulbs and turn off lights when not in
use.

* Neither paper nor plastic.
I always have several canvas totes in my car ready to be used when I go
shopping.

* Coffee to go without the paper.
Take your own coffee mug to work.
